I made these wreaths out of poly deco mesh, pipe cleaners and wire wreath frames. I saw a few tutorials on You Tube and decided that this would make a great Christmas gift. I couldn't give up the pink and green one. It is currently hanging on my front door.

Natural Bridge Wildlife Safari

We saw a Daytripper episode about the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch and knew that the kids would love it. It is about 1.5 hours south of Austin, just outside of San Antonio. Right inside the gates they have a petting zoo with goats. We gave Audrey and Jackson a brush and they went from goat to goat brushing their fur. After thoroughly washing everyone's hands and doing our best to get the goat poop off of our shoes, we loaded up in the car and drove through the safari. There were some amazing animals along the way. Some of the animals that we saw (and could identify) were ostriches, wildebeasts, emus, donkeys, a camel, zebras, rhinos, macaws, lemurs, giraffes, chickens, and a peacock. It was a fun trip, but I am glad that we did not wait until the heat of the summer. Just so you know, our car still smells like goat poop.

Neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt '11

Last year we took the kids for their first Easter Egg hunt. The two kids wondered aimlessly through the field and right past all of the eggs. Mimi, Grandpa Rick, Chris and I were tasked with the job of scooping up the eggs and putting them in the kids' baskets. This year I wanted the kids to be excited about the egg hunt and have a vague idea of what was going on. I bought some eggs and put 1 M&M in each egg and hid them in the living room while the kids were napping. It definitely did the trick because the kids were shoveling the eggs in the basket. They both got quite the haul.

Fern Bluff Elementary Carnival

We took the kids to the local elementary carnival to support our future school. I read online that there was going to be a train ride, but when we got there I found out that they were not there this year. Luckily, there was a giant slide and a bounce house. Audrey does not understand the concept of "waiting your turn" or "taking your turn" so she had a major baby break down prior and after her trip on the slide and in the bounce house. It was not pretty. Jackson had his break down after he crawled out of the bounce house early and his spot was taken by another kid. He was not a happy camper. After that we realized that it was time to go home. I am not sure if we will brave the carnival again next year but we will see.

Metro Rail & Austin Children's Museum

We took my "Thomas The Train" obsessed little boy on the Austin Metro Rail. He was in absolute heaven. He got a kick out of the horn, the railroad crossings and the other trains that we passed on the way downtown. When we got downtown, we walked to the Austin Children's Museum. They had a train table by the front door and that is about as far as Jackson got. Audrey tried the golf ball launchers, the train exhibit, the veterinary exhibit, the lunch counter and the little store.

Arrowhead Ranch

For about a year now I have seen signs in our neighborhood advertising pony rides and a petting zoo. Either the kids were too young or we had plans that morning so we were never able to go. On Monday morning we finally made it out to The Arrowhead Ranch. I was a little leery about taking the kids to a petting zoo in someone's backyard, but it was an actual ranch with the entrance tucked in the back of a cul-de-sack. They had 2 ponies, a horse, 2 rabbits, 3 goats, 4 chickens and a donkey. Included in the cost of admission the kids were able to feed the chickens, feed the goats, pet the bunnies, and ride the pony around the circle 3 times. The kids really enjoyed it, so I think that we will be making our way back to The Arrowhead Ranch.

The Capital of Texas Zoo

We took the kids to the Capital of Texas Zoo last weekend. I was told that it was a ghetto zoo, but I did not believe the naysayers because of the big, beautiful sign on the highway. We turned off of the highway and headed towards the zoo. As we drove, we passed several double-wides, a couple of dump of the months and one prominently displayed stone Jesus. Chris thought that the "zoo people" were just trying to get us off the main road to rob us. When we finally got to the zoo, we turned off on a dirt road and parked in a dusty parking lot. It was definitely not the San Antonio Zoo. Nothing was paved and most of the animals were not identified. You know you are not in a "real" zoo when one of the major exhibits is the Guinnea Pig exhibit ("Hey Jackson and Audrey, Look It's Lenny from the Wonder Pets!"). The nice thing about the zoo is that it is not crowded and you can get closer to the animals then the regular zoo. The kids had a good time and the weather was nice, so overall it was a pretty nice afternoon.

Jackson really loves his Thomas the Train toy. He walks around the house with it, wackes his sister with it, and even sleeps with it sometimes. I was reading the Little Austinite blog and found out that we have a miniature train that is just around the corner from us. Luckily I found the blog post on Saturday since the train only operates on the weekend. When the kids woke up from their nap, we packed them up and headed to the park. They both ran over to the train and picked their seats. It was a chilly 15 minute ride that included views of the pond, the soccer fields, the softball fields, a tunnel and more than a few pollinating cedar trees. The kids had a blast!

Summer Fun

The kids have been having a great time this summer trying new things. They are no longer content to sit in their Pack-n-Play. Jackson has learned how to to jump out of the Pack-n-Play on his own. Those two are into EVERYTHING. I have put locks on most of the cabinets, installed an oven lock, a dishwasher lock and we have a baby gate at the top of the stairs. This is just a minor road block until they can figure out how to get around these little deterrents. What am I going to do?

After checking out Natalie's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun blog I decided that today would be a great day to take the kids to The Good Earth Farm in Leander. Good thing that we went on an overcast day because there are NO shade trees. The kids weren't too sure what to think about the animals because they are so much bigger than the kids are. The farm also had a table set up with bubble liquid and wands. The kids were more interested in chewing on the bubble wands than blowing bubbles. I think that we might wait until the weather gets cooler before we make a return trip to the farm.

The kids had their second Kindertots Dance Class today. Jackson did a better job this week of playing along and loved jumping, going around in a circle and being a part of the noodle train. Chris' Granny gave us a small table and two chairs for the kids. The color was not doing so great. It was a faded blue and the polyurethane finish had turned yellow. I decided to paint the furniture but I could not decide what color to paint it. It was torn between blue, yellow or red. Chris said anything but RED....

Kindertots

I enrolled the kids in Kindertots with a bunch of kids from church. Kindertots is a "dance" class for little kids. Yesterday was their first day of class. It was more like herding kittens than an actual dance class. Kids were running in all directions and only one kid was actually following directions. It was absolutely hilarious and well worth the price of admission.

First Trip To The Sprinkler Park

Jackson was afraid to get in the water. Mommy kind of picked him up and ran him through the sprinkler. He was not amused.

Audrey was afraid at first, but she got brave and went to check out the action.

Unfortunately, she got too close to the water spout and got drenched. After that, she was not amused either.

Hopefully the next time we go to the sprinkler park the kids will be more willing to actually go in the water. One step at a time.

Yippee!

The kids love to play in the toddler playground at McDonald's. It is a giant Little Tykes Tree house with rattles and musical toys. The kids circle the tree over and over again. If only we could keep the big kids off of the toddler playground. The big kids like to chase the twins and try to pick them up.

We actually had snow here in Round Rock. It started sleeting around 6:00 AM and the snow started falling soon after. We had big flakes until about 6:00 PM but it soon melted because the ground was still warm from yesterday. The kids had to watch the snow from inside because they have been sick and we did not want to make it worse.

I actually sewed something for Audrey to wear. Shocking... I know! I found this cute tutorial on Trey and Lucy and I thought that this would be a good foray into sewing. I got a waffle dishtowel and a Valentines Day dishtowel from Target's Dollar Spot and made them into a top and a dress. The only problem is that Audrey keeps untying the bows and pulling the ribbon through the casing.

Jackson does not think much of my sewing skills :)

The kids have an entire playroom full of toys and all they want to do is stand by the entrance. Their other favorite spot is looking out the window. Jackson is able to pull himself to standing very easily. Audrey needs some help to get up, but once she is up she is pretty stable standing. I think that the kids will be walking in no time. We are so SCREWED!

Tooth Update

Audrey is currently sporting 6 teeth (4 on the top and 2 on the bottom). Her 2 teeth on the bottom came in first followed by her canine teeth. She just got her front 2 teeth to fill in her smile. It is almost impossible to get a picture of her teeth because she usually closes her mouth as soon as the flash goes off. Jackson just got his bottom 2 teeth and he loves to show them off. I love those toothy grins.

Our pediatrician told us that we shouldn't give the babies a tub bath every night because it will dry out their skin. So every other day we give the babies a sponge bath which we call a"spit-bath". We went to Houston for Memorial Day weekend to spend some time with Chris' family. We were looking forward to the twins first swim in the pool. The kids are both starting to lift themselves up on their arms. I think that crawling is just around the corner. Jackson can lift himself up and kick his legs. Audrey is a little confused and is doing a kind of crab-like crawl. I guess Chris and I have to start thinking about baby proofing our house sooner rather than later.

Key Keep Away

We got a couple of sets of plastic keys from the dollar store for the kids to play with. The kids absolutely love their plastic keys. We have a set downstairs, a set upstairs and a set in the car. There was only one set of keys on the blanket where the kids were playing. Guess who won keep away?
